The issue that I have repeatedly encountered is that people mistakenly have high expectations for the growth of their ZZ plant, and most of the time, the plant doesn’t have any particular problem.
False concern about ZZ plant growth
– First, you need to know your houseplant’s features. It grows slowly and adds only a few leaves or branches every year.
This houseplant symbolizes stability and endurance and survives well in shortages and hardships.
Remember that a slow-growing houseplant is not sick or injured.
– Second, ZZ plants usually grow well in hot seasons with long days and produce new buds.
On the contrary, in cold seasons, the days get shorter, and the amount of light reaches the ZZ plant less, so the amount of photosynthesis decreases, and it grows less.
Dormancy during winter saves energy and boosts the plant’s immune system and defense mechanisms. Therefore, it is natural that the ZZ plant does not grow tall or produce leaves and flowers with the best ZZ plant care.
Problems that stop the ZZ plant’s growth
When it comes to the ZZ plant’s light needs, it loves bright, indirect sunlight. So, if you place your indoor plant next to a window with indirect sunlight, you will help it grow quickly, but be aware that direct light will harm the houseplant and burn its leaves.
The ZZ plant prefers soils with good drainage, such as cactus or succulent mix.
If you water the ZZ plant too much, the ZZ plant root rot will happen, and it will not grow.
If the ZZ plant soil mix is too dense, reporting ZZ plant in lighter soil with better drainage is better.
However, Too much fertilization is also harmful because salt buildup in the soil damages the roots.
Another reason the ZZ plant is not growing is the unstable temperature. The rise and fall of temperature stress the ZZ plant and make it unable to grow well.
Although ZZ plants are very strong, pests may have attacked them, or they may have become ill because of overwatering. It is better to check and treat them.
I hope your plant gets better soon, and if you have any questions about your ZZ plant not growing, feel free to ask me in the comments section.
