Mid-Century Modern, Minimalist, Scandinavian, and Bohemian are popular modern styles, and they are becoming more popular every day. I want to bring up some indoor plants used in our projects on these designs.
I am 100% sure that if you are a fan of modern styles, you will absolutely love at least one of the first four indoor plants :)).
1. Raven ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia ‘Raven’)
For modern and minimalist decorations, I choose Raven ZZ Plant because this modern houseplant has glossy leaves and a dark purple-black color and gives a contemporary feel to the house.
This species of traditional ZZ plant initially has bright green leaves but darkens as they grow. It is also hardy against problems such as lack of water and light.
Additionally, the Raven ZZ plant and all its other varieties are considered low-maintenance houseplants.
2. Sansevieria Cylindrica (African Spear Plant)
Sansevieria Cylindrica owes its bold and sculptural form to its leaves. This modern houseplant has cylindrical and spear-like leaves that grow vertically in a fan shape. Dark and thick green leaves with lighter green stripes bring your home closer to a minimal and modern style.
If you still doubt maintaining this modern houseplant, it is an air-purifier houseplant and easy to care for. This low light houseplant grows with low watering too.
3. Chinese Money Plant (Pilea peperomioides)
On the long and narrow stem, round and coin-shaped leaves make the indoor plant look minimalistic and give the interior a strange and modern feeling.
Usually, we put it on the tables, shelves, or windowsills. Still, the feature of creating a modern indoor garden with Chinese money plants always occupies my mind. However, I haven’t made a serious decision about it yet.
This modern houseplant is easy to care for and needs bright and indirect light.
4. Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia)
With bright light and regular weekly watering, the space is ready for Bird of Paradise growth.
This modern houseplant is exotic and attracts all eyes with its large, banana-like leaves and bold height. This tropical houseplant also shines as a tropical element in your stylish design.
Bird of Paradise blooms once or twice a year with beautiful blue and orange flowers.
5. Monstera Deliciosa (Swiss Cheese Plant)
Your minimalist interior is unfinished without Monstera. This modern houseplant has large, slashed leaves, giving the home Hawai’i vibes.
It is a beautiful houseplant and is recommended for those who don’t have any experience in growing a houseplant. With some direct sunlight, regular watering, and in time repotting houseplant, you can ensure the health and growth of the indoor plant.
It’s hard to believe, but in areas with a lot of sun and no frost, the leaves of this modern houseplant can reach 4 feet.
6. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum)
Pothos are common houseplants and also jack of all trades that thrive in low to medium light and require low watering. These modern houseplants encourage modern beauty with their heart-shaped leaves and trailing vines. So if modern design is essential, you should have these hanging houseplants pot in your home.
7. Bird’s Nest Fern (Asplenium nidus)
The broad and wavy leaves of Asplenium nidus that have come out of the central rosette make the houseplant look like a bird’s nest. This is the reason why we call it a bird’s nest.
Having a Bird’s Nest Fern makes the house’s modern space beautiful, soft, and tropical.
In addition, the sculptural form and ease of care should be a fern in every home.
It is usually placed in the bathroom or kitchen because it needs low to medium light and high humidity.
8. Peperomia (Peperomia spp.)
I used this indoor plant as a decorative element on desks, shelves, or terrariums. Still, due to its small size, it can be effective in line with the minimal style.
This modern houseplant has various colors and shapes, and its leaves can be heart-shaped, rippled, or variegated.
Peperomia can adapt to different light conditions.
9. Maidenhair Fern (Adiantum spp.)
The Maidenhair Fern is from the Adiantum family and has delicate lace leaves.
This modern houseplant prefers indirect light and high humidity. It needs more care than other indoor plants. However, it is so beautiful and provides a peaceful environment that it is still popular.
It is the best houseplant for bathroom, but you can use humidifiers.
10. Ficus Audrey (Ficus benghalensis)
With stable humidity and bright and indirect light, you can have a houseplant that purifies the air and is easy to care for.
In addition, I am a fan of this modern houseplant for interior decoration because it has large, velvety leaves and a strong trunk. Its lush foliage brings our living room or office closer to being contemporary.
11. Dracaena Marginata (Dragon Tree)
The dragon tree is the best choice for empty walls and places with high ceilings because of its height. This modern houseplant has narrow and arched leaves that grow from thin and straight stems, and the tips of the grassy leaves of the dragon tree are sometimes red and pink.
This dramatic and tall houseplant modernizes the interior decoration by adding green color to the house.
This houseplant is both practical and modern. It cleans the air in the house and needs easy care and low maintenance.
Remember, if the tips of the dragon tree turn brown, there is a possibility that the humidity will be low. In such cases, you could put it in the bathroom with high humidity or among other houseplants.
If you have any questions or know of any other houseplants that you think are suitable for modern styles, please share them in the comments section, and let’s discuss them together.
