Zamioculcas Zamiifolia, commonly called ZZ plant is native to eastern Africa, that you can keep in your house and catch your friend’s eye.
There have always been doubts about the family of this type of plant. Now, I want to clearly explain that are ZZ plants succulents or not?
At first sight, because a ZZ plant stores water very well and can deal with lack of water, some people think that it is a member of succulent families like Crassulaceae or Cactaceae, but it is completely wrong idea. ZZ plants belong to Araceae family and technically behave like philodendrons or a peace lilies.
Although, a succulent and a ZZ plant both have waxy leaves and can be in a long period without any water, the first one stores water by its leaves, roots and stems and the second one has rhizome, which is thickened part of the root and cuts down the need for watering.
